Relocation survey demonstrates growing ambition of companies

An investigation into the idea that companies are becoming more adventurous and willing to look at the global picture when carrying out a relocation

A 2010 survey analysing the trends involved in companies who have carried out relocations during last year have thrown up some interesting results.

The most intriguing of all was the results regarding where, and how far, companies had relocated some or all of their business to.

Data from the industry analysis survey, which involved over 70,000 individuals who were involved in a relocation within 2010, suggested that more than 1 in 3 (38%) of the respondents made a short distance move only.

In contrast, 62% of respondents made a move of more than 100 miles.

A vast number of these respondents will have been making the move as part of their job, having been requested to by their employers.

The fact that so many of those involved were requested to move more than 100 miles away (and in some cases considerably further) demonstrates how adventurous companies are becoming in the search for growth.

Even small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) who would previously have been tentative about venturing too far and aiming too high are now more prepared to think outside the box.

Companies of all shapes and sizes are becoming smarter about what they need to do find growth. They feel less restrained by borders and boundaries, and are now prepared to leave their comfort zone by opening up branches in different continents and environments.

A big reason for such a change in attitude is the global financial crisis of the last 3 years. In many ways, the crisis has forced businesses to become smarter and more adventurous, making the world seem like a smaller place in general.

Of course, a number of issues accompany any relocation. Things such as immigration and tax laws must be addressed if you are planning to relocate staff across different continents.

Relocation consultants can assist you with all such issues, helping to make the transition as smooth as possible.
