An investigation into why so many large businesses within Australia are considering the idea of relocating overseas

The relentless momentum of the Australian dollar is causing a high number of firms to consider the idea of relocating their headquarters overseas.

According to a new survey produced by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, 21% of the largest 500 business in Australia have suggested that they are considering the idea of relocating overseas because of the persistent strength of the Australian dollar.

Export businesses, in particular, are suffering from the consequences of trading with such a strong currency.
43% of exporters report that the Australian dollar is encouraging them to decrease investment spending.

This is in contrast to importers, who reported that the Australian dollar is encouraging them to actually increase investment spending.

The Australian dollar has risen by approximately 70% since late 2008. Although this is good news for some, for a large proportion of the export business in Australia it is disastrous.
