Money matters as part of any relocation overseas

An investigation into the importance of financial issues when relocating abroad

Any large-scale relocation overseas is a complex issue with a multitude of factors to consider.

Issues to consider include school/property searches and deciding on where your new company premises are going to be.

However, there is perhaps one thing which stands out as being more important than everything else. Indeed, it is central to the smooth running of everything else; money.

Paying for all of the aspects of any relocation is certain to be a complex process. Relocation agents can assist with several issues though.

From budgeting for general expenditure to settling bills on your behalf as you struggle to organise other issues, such a company can be a vital help when taking on ‘the big move.’

Individuals will also have to consider their own personal finance issues once they relocate. Recent accounts, allied to the ongoing financial problems which a number of the world’s economies are facing, could make this a particularly stressful issue.

David Kerns, Private Client Dealing Manager at Moneycorp, suggests that although a number of Britons are content once they relocate overseas, they are suffering from a steep rise in living costs in many cases and need to educate themselves more about finances.

“Speak to currency specialists to guard against adverse fluctuations. By locking into favourable exchange rates for up to two years, expats can protect themselves against the pound losing further value, as well as avoiding potentially costly transfer fees. Over a series of payments, these savings can run into thousands of pounds,” suggests Kerns.

Money is just one of the many factors to consider as part of any relocation. When the time comes, the whole prospect may seem daunting considering what you will have to organise.

The key is to be organised and pro-active; it could be the key to a strong start in your new surroundings.
