Relocating abroad; the four week countdown

A guide to the key things you must consider one month before you relocate abroad as part of your new employment

With just one month to go before your overseas relocation, it is important to be aware of the key issues which you need to address.

Large issues such as what to do with pets and vehicles should have been sorted by this stage, whereas smaller issues such as packing do not necessarily have to be addressed yet.

At this crucial stage though, there are some issues which need to occupy your mind more than others. For example, de-cluttering cupboards and drawers should be done at this stage.

This may not sound like the most glamorous project to spend your time on, but if you are planning to leave your existing property then removing old tins/cans of food from kitchen cupboards and considering how to start running down the items in your fridge are relatively important issues.

It might also be a good time to begin dismantling any furniture which you do not use on a day-to-day basis.

Although there is still a full month before you depart, anything aside from your bed and living room couch is probably not too important to you at this stage.

A great deal of modern furniture can be particularly complex to take apart, so it is definitely a good idea to get cracking on it now to avoid any last minute DIY attempts.

Relocation companies

You may not have all the answers to the questions and concerns which your staff has about the relocation. In this regard, corporate relocation companies can be a great help.

They can help those involved with advice and practical support regarding a range of issues including tax laws and temporary accommodation.

Small details and intricate differences in the culture of your new destination could cause headaches down the line.

Why not anticipate them at an early stage, therefore leaving you free to make an early impact in your new position?
